Miranda Wilson: A Martinez was the most wonderful co-star one could've asked for. He was a consummate professional, always ready to work, he held the space for my histrionics as Sandra, sometimes making sure I was given enough time to "rebalance" after a highly emotional scene. He also had a lovely sense of humour. A was a great friend to all. I had very few scenes with Marcy. My character came into the storyline as a point of intrigue while Marcy went on maternity leave and her character, Eden, went to Paris to nurture herself into a recovery after being told her baby had died. Once Marcy returned I found her a gentle, strong presence on the set. Capridge.Com: Were you satisfied how it was tied up at the end? Miranda Wilson: Well, I wouldn't say anything was tied up, would you? In typical daytime TV fashion, they simply did what was efficacious – stopped writing the character in – and assumed the fans would deal with it. It's the nature of the genre. In truth, I was very happy, at the time, that my character disappeared from Santa Barbara. I had met my future husband in the few weeks prior to my character first coming onto the show. We had met in Australia and he was a French/Englishman living in the UK. He came to visit me twice during the six months I was on Santa Barbara and by the second visit I knew I wanted to be with him. And the sooner, the better. I had actually had a conversation with Charlotte about a month before Sandra evaporated, and said that I would be absolutely fine if the writers found a reason to get rid of Sandra. I do imagine I would have been a bit more satisfied with a dramatic finish that reflected the dramatic run, though. Capridge.Com: Do you remember your storyline? Miranda Wilson: Yes, of course. I remember it very clearly. In fact, for many years after moving to the UK, there was a short clip on a show called Dennis Norton's Laughter File from a scene with Judith McConnell [Sophia]. The clip was a blooper in which she looked at the camera with a "What a drama queen" look after Sandra had stormed out of the house in a flourish. It was a very funny look. I would not have remembered that scene otherwise. Capridge.Com: What are some of the memories that come to you during that time on Santa Barbara? Miranda Wilson: My memory of the off set events are far fewer than the recall of the storyline. Perhaps this is because there was so much repetition when rehearsing and the storyline had a trajectory that was the focus for several months. The creative process was engaged and required a conscious focus. Perhaps that's what held it in my memory. My memories of working with this cast and crew is a general sense of community, comfort, co-operation and camaraderie. I remember having a very comfortable, supportive rapport with A Martinez. I remember having several amusing interactions with Lane Davies [Mason], he was fond of using quotes from Shakespeare and has a very witty mind. I particularly remember the nurturing, supportive and affectionate friendship with Jerry Adler who was the stage manager while I was on the show. Several years later I saw him appearing in a Woody Allen film, Manhattan Murder Mystery, and was thrilled for him. I then bumped into him on the set of Mad About You starring a friend of mine, Helen Hunt. We had a wonderful albeit brief catch up on the changes our lives had gone through. He's one of the nicest guys I've ever worked with. And one of my most glorious memories of life in Santa Barbara, off set, was when I was in Paris at the same time as Nancy Lee Grahn [Julia]. We were taken out to lunch by a Tele Sept Jour journalist, to a lovely restaurant in the Tuileries, and then spent several hours walking around Paris doing a photo shoot and thoroughly enjoying ourselves. Nancy was such a pleasure to spend time with. She has a beautiful lighthearted spirit and a truly regal bearing. I absorbed as much of her grace as I could in those hours we spent together.
Miranda Wilson: The excecutive at NBC in charge of daytime TV, changed. The next executive, apparently, had no interest in a storyline about a psychic. I was told he didn't believe in psychics and was therefore stopping the storyline. As I said previously, it suited me just fine, at the time. Capridge.Com: Before SB, you were known as Cheryl Ann Wilson. What prompted you to change your name? Miranda Wilson: I joined an international spiritual organisation called Subud. And like many spiritual practices, there's a mindset suggesting that the name you call yourself can be more or less in alignment with who you truly are and who you came here to be. I had been wanting to change my name for many years, anyway. My brother, Jeff, and I used to spend hours trying to come up with my "stage name." So, when the concept came into my awareness, I jumped on it. The name was given to me by a beloved woman who happened to have been a fan of mine from the beginning of my career. She has watched me ever since I was on Days of Our Lives. And I love my name, Miranda. Its meaning is One Who Is To Be Admired. Or as she put it, One Who Sets An Example For Others. Capridge.Com: What have you been doing since leaving SB? Miranda Wilson: My life took a very clear turn towards holistic living. My husband and I moved to the South of France. I began studying numerous different complimentary methods of healing. Herbology, Aromatherapy, Homeopathy, Reflexology, Bach Flower Remedies. I became pregnant and focused my studies on pre and post childbirth Best Practice, with a holistic focus. I gave birth to my older son at home in Forcalquier, France, with a midwife, my husband and a range of herbal remedies that I had gathered and made myself. This was such an empowering experience. I then delved into a deeper study of early childhood development and education as well as some art-based child psychology systems. I took up knitting for a time, until my very energetic young child wouldn't let me sit still. After a couple of years we moved back to the US and my second son was born in LA. Again a home birth with only a midwife, two close friends, my mother-in-law and the herbal simples I had made myself. By the time my second son was born my husband and I were no longer living together. So, this was a very stressful period for me. I had never imagined I'd be raising two boys on my own, but I have always been extremely certain that these two boys have been the cornerstone of my life. From them I have learned more about myself, the male of our species and human relationship than I ever thought I needed to know. "You don't know what you don't know until you know it." I moved to the UK in 1998 to join a group of like-minded friends and take on the role of project manager in the set up of a Holistic Primary School in Lewes, East Sussex. I was lucky that all of my UK friends were in the South East of England, as it's the sunniest spot in the country. I can't imagine having less sunshine than this. After the Lewes New School opened, I worked briefly for the British Holistic Medical Association as Director and then started a private practice as an Emotional Intelligence Coach. One of the unique aspects of the curriculum at the Lewes New School is the emotional intelligence program that's built into the fabric of the school. I realized, in the four years that I had kids at the school and was an active participant and observer of the evolution of the community, that the parents were more in need of the EQ training than the kids. The kids found the learning and re-habituating much easier and less tortuous than their parents. So, I studied the Psychology of Vision method of addressing our mind patterns and began working 1-2-1 with people in all walks of life. I have, in the last two years, been aiming more towards Quantum Vibrational Accelerated Change. My website shows a lot about the work I've been doing recently. I have maintained some of my coaching work but have moved the focus into Passion and Bliss and away from "what's wrong with me." It's made a big difference in how I see my clients. And I love the fact that skype enables me to work with people around the globe. As well, the Quantum Vibrational work is equally as effective at a distance. So, I have contact with such a variety of people. It is such a pleasure to open up a new perspective with people who are simply wanting to expand and give the best of themselves to the world.
Miranda Wilson: I love acting and I would act again, if I were offered an interesting role. At the moment, I'm calling in co-creators to work with me on vital entertainment for stage and screen. I have a number of sizzling ideas that simply need the most cooperative component to fall into place in order for them to be realized. So, watch this space... Capridge.Com: Any final words you want the readers to know about you? Miranda Wilson: A few things. In line with my belief in Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, I am setting up an Ebay auction selling lots of my clothing that I no longer need or wear. Some of it is now the wrong size for me. Some are dresses I've worn for a specific occasion and never since. And while most are just normal clothes, some are very pricey. All of it needs a happy home. My Ebay name (as well as my YouTube name) is DancingStillness. There's a video clip on my website that was filmed at the Mind Body Spirit trade show in May. It was a spontaneous "interview" by a guy who apparently does quite a bit of these impromptu videos. But it's amusing and current. I deeply appreciate the loyalty and enthusiasm of the fans of Santa Barbara. It was an unique show and an honor to be part of. As our world continues to reshape itself in seemingly unimaginable ways, always remember to open your hearts to your fellow beings in the way you've opened your heart to those of us who entered your homes by way of a TV show. We are all one. One mind and one heart. Let every moment lead you towards that understanding. |
