Summer
Blake was a
fictional
character
that
appeared on Santa
Barbara from
September
1984 to
January
1985. She
was
portrayed by
actress
Jonna Leigh
Stack.
Summer
was Gina
Demott's
younger
sister.
Their
parents died
when Summer
was barely a
teenager,
forcing Gina
to fight to
keep her
from being
taken away
to a foster
home. As a
result, the
two sisters
were always
very close.
In 1989,
however,
long after
Summer's
death, this
history was
rewritten
when Gina's
mother, Phyllis
Blake,
turned up in
town.
Arrival
in Santa
Barbara
Summer's
primary
reason for
coming to
Santa
Barbara was
to take care
of Gina, who
had recently
become a
widow and
was staying
in the
Presidential
Suite of the
Capwell
Hotel. On
her first
day in town,
Summer met
lifeguard Warren
Lockridge
at the beach
bar when he
tried to
help her
select a
jukebox
song. He
offered to
buy her a
drink, but
she was
clearly not
interested
in drinking
with a
stranger.
The two
eventually
grew closer,
however,
after Warren
burned his
hand and
Summer
helped to bandage it
up. Having
landed a job
at the
museum, she
then got
help from
him in
finding an
apartment.
Warren
and Summer
Things
got
complicated
after Warren
accidentally
dropped a
box of
ancient
coins in
Summer's
presence. He
swore her to
secrecy and
got
extremely
paranoid
about her
friendship
with Kelly
Capwell.
Although
Summer was
angry about
Warren's
behavior,
they soon
made up and
he helped
her move out
of the
Presidential
Suite.
Unfortunately,
he dropped
one of the
coins there
and it was
found by a
bellhop.
Although
Summer tried
to cover by
suggesting
it belonged
to the
previous
guest, the
bellhop
mentioned
Warren's
name and a
suspicious
Kelly held
onto the
coin. Warren
was very
upset when
Summer told
him the news.
She returned
a coin to
him on
Kelly's
behalf, but
it turned
out to be a
fake.
Believing
that the
coin was
more
important to
him than
their
friendship,
Summer
decided to
stay away
from Warren.
But when
Kelly asked
Summer to
act as a
go-between
and give
Warren a
message
about the
coin, she
refused to
be put in
the middle
and gave
Warren
another
chance. One
night, the
two got
stuck in an
elevator and
he finally
confided to
her that he
had done
something
awful to
protect his
dad (i.e.
stealing the
Capwell
coins).
Following
this
confession,
Warren and
Summer's
relationship
only
deepened.
Nevertheless,
Summer
resisted
Warren's
advances
several
times. The
first time
occured when
he gave her
a private
scuba lesson
and promptly
kissed her.
Then, he
surprised
her with a
romantic
picnic at
the museum
and made
another
move, but
this only
caused her
to run away
and recall
her terrible
experience
of
molestation
from years
before.
Although she
was unable
to confide
in Warren
about this,
he didn't
push and was
very
understanding.
A short
while later,
he surprised
her by
hiring
waiters to
serve them
an
extravagant
meal in the
elevator of
the Capwell
Hotel.
Although
Warren and
Summer got
passionate,
she was
again
reminded of
the
molestation
and fled
from the
hotel.
Eventually,
Summer
revealed to
a shocked
Gina that
she had been
raped by
Hank Judson,
Gina's
ex-boyfriend.
Death
When
Summer
disappeared,
Warren
checked at
the museum
and was told
she had left
no
forwarding
address.
Upset, he
turned to
Gina for
answers. She
eventually
told him the
truth:
Summer was
with a
therapist in
Los Angeles
to deal with
her rape. A
few weeks
later,
Mason
Capwell
got Summer
back in town
to question
her about
Warren's
coins. She
was bent on
protecting
Warren,
however, and
refused to
incriminate
him.
Furthermore,
she was
horrified to
spot a
picture of a
waitress who
had recently
been
murdered by
the
Carnation
Killer
(a.k.a. Peter
Flint).
Warren
learned that
Summer was
back in town
and although
it was too
soon for her
to be with
him, he
promised to
wait. Later,
at the State
Street Bar,
Summer got
into an
argument
with Kelly
by asking
her not to
incriminate
Warren.
After Kelly
left the
bar, a
deranged
Peter
approached
Summer on
the pretext
that Warren
had been in
an accident.
Summer
agreed to
let Peter
drive her to
the hospital
and was
horrified
when he gave
her a white
carnation.
Not long
after this,
a distraught
Warren found
Summer's
dead body in
an abandoned
warehouse.
She had been
raped and
killed.
