MICHELLE NICASTRO
Sasha Schmidt, 1989-90

Michelle Nicastro was born on March 31, 1960 in Washington D.C. and raised in Princeton, New Jersey. She had always wanted to be an actress, but because she was the daughter of a doctor, she was scared to admit it. After high school, however, she enrolled at Northwestern University in Chicago and studied theater.

After graduation, Michelle did what most aspiring actresses do and moved to Los Angeles. Ironically, she was immediately packing her bags again because she had won a role in the Broadway musical Merlin. Later, she portrayed Esponine in the Los Angeles production of Les MisÚrables.

Michelle had guest spots on several TV shows, including Airwolf, Knight Rider, Full House, Coach, Beverly Hills, 90210 and Who's the Boss? Aside from Santa Barbara, she appeared on the daytime drama Days of Our Lives. Her character on that show was called Sasha, too.

On the big screen, Michelle appeared briefly as the college sweetheart of Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally. She also provided the voice of Princess Odette in the animated movie The Swan Princess and its three sequels.

Michelle's first solo recording, Toonful, led to a recording contract with Varese Sarabande Records, and she followed with three more CDs, one featuring contemporary songs from Broadway.

Sadly, Michelle died of cancer on November 4, 2010. She was 50. She is survived by her husband Steve Stark and daughters Callie and Cady.
