Brief Character History

Known for her romance novels, Megan Richardson was an author who arrived in Santa Barbara to write the autobiography of millionaire C.C. Capwell. To facilitate this partnership, C.C. invited Megan to move into the guesthouse on his estate. He soon fell in love with the younger woman and pushed their relationship to a new intimacy, evoking the jealousy of his ex-wife Sophia. Little did C.C. know that Megan was keeping several secrets, including her having a 17-year-old son in New Hampshire named Greg Hughes. After finding a New Hampshire adress among Megan's things, Sophia paid a visit to Greg and learned he was Megan's son.

Although C.C. and Megan made love, she insisted it wouldn't happen again because she didn't want her feelings to get hurt. Once Sophia exposed the truth about Greg, Megan told C.C. that Greg's father was Joe Hughes, a man who died during the war before Greg was born. C.C. followed Megan to New Hampshire and met Greg for the first time. Back in Santa Barbara, while C.C. was kissing Megan, he suddenly suffered a mild heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. Greg, who was visiting Megan, saved C.C.'s life by administering CPR when he realized what was happening.

Visiting Greg in New Hampshire, Megan revealed that C.C., not Joe Hughes, was his father! Megan explained that she was seventeen when she met C.C. in Paris and had a one-night stand with him, resulting in Greg's conception. Needless to say, Greg was stunned. He went back to Santa Barbara with Megan, who assured him it was up to him if he wanted to tell C.C. that he was his son. A few weeks later, Greg told C.C. the truth. Although C.C. took the news very well, the rest of the Capwells were suspicious of Megan. They even suspected her of being the spy who'd been passing Capwell Enterprises business information on to Robert Barr.

When C.C. proposed marriage to Megan during a family dinner, she turned him down and left town for a few days. Upon her return, she revealed her final secret to C.C. and Greg: she was suffering from leukemia and didn't have long to live! A short while later, Megan confided to Sophia that she was leaving town to die alone and Sophia agreed to Megan's request that she take care of C.C. and Greg when she was gone. Still, Sophia told C.C. to go after Megan and stop her from leaving. Although C.C. caught up with Megan at the airport, he was unable to persuade her to stay. She wasn't heard from again.
