Brief Character History
1985
When Kirk Cranston first appeared, he went on a business trip to Hawaii with rich girl Eden Capwell as a business advisor. At the time, Eden was in charge of Capwell Enterprises while her father C.C. lay in a coma. Charmed by Kirk, she hired him as a vice president at the company. Kirk soon set his sights on Eden, who was currently engaged to Hispanic cop Cruz Castillo. Meanwhile, Eden was torn over fulfilling her father's earlier request for euthanasia, which was something Cruz disapproved of. She found herself being supported by Kirk, unaware that he was plotting to win her away from Cruz.

Things became more complicated when vilainess Gina Demott drugged Eden and had her pull the plug on C.C.'s life support system (with Gina's help). Upon hearing the life support alarm go off, Kirk found Eden by plug and assumed that she had tried to kill her father. He took her out of the room before anyone could find her. Soon, Eden grew to rely on Kirk as he continued to cover for her. She also believed that Cruz couldn't live with what she had done, so she agreed to marry Kirk. After the wedding, Kirk figured out that Gina, not Eden, had pulled the plug on C.C. He withheld this information from his new wife for fear of losing her. In addition, he started sending blackmail notes to Eden so she would continue believing she was responsible for the murder attempt.

1986
C.C. came out of his coma and approved of Kirk and Eden's marriage. This pleased Kirk. However, when Eden was reluctant to have his child, he took matters into his own hands and tampered with her birth control pills. Later, he was furious after finding letters in which Eden admitted that she loved Cruz, not Kirk. He promptly decided to kill Eden. He blew up a mountain cabin with Cruz and Eden inside, but they both survived. Kirk then blackmailed Gina into shooting Eden at the Capwell boathouse. The plan failed when Gina fell into the water and seemingly drowned after she and Eden struggled over Gina's gun. Eden wound up unharmed, though she lost the baby Kirk didn't know she was carrying. Following this incident, Eden became suspicious of Kirk.

Later, Gina turned up alive at the Capwell house, scaring Kirk and causing him to have a heart attack. Kirk nearly died. He survived when he received the heart of Madeline Capwell Laurent, who had recently been murdered, as a transplant. He then tried to kill Eden again, chasing her around Aqualand and throwing her in a shark tank. When Cruz rescued Eden, Kirk tried to kill them both. Fortunately, Gina resurfaced and saved them. Kirk was finally arrested.

1987
Making another appearance, Kirk turned out to be responsible for Elena Nikolas's plot to kill herself and frame Cruz for the act. Kirk was imprisoned again, though not before another attempt to kill Cruz and Eden.

1989
The one-legged man involved in the kidnapping of Cruz and Eden's daughter, Adriana, turned out to be none other than Kirk Cranston. He had escaped from prison by taking on the idenity of a prisoner who was paroled. Eventually, Kirk was once again arrested.

1990
Kirk was revealed to be a drug lord on an island called Kahana. He kidnapped Cruz's cop friends Michael Donnelly and Nikki Alvarez to lure his archenemy to the island. Cruz was able to save his friends. On their way back to Santa Barbara, Kirk disappeared when he fell overboard the boat they were on during a storm. He wasn't heard from again.
