Jackie
Parks was a
fictional
character
who appeared on Santa
Barbara from
January to
May 1985. She
was
portrayed by
actress
Martina
Deignan.
Introduction
In early
1985,
pregnant Amy
Perkins
was thrilled
when her old
friend,
Jackie Parks,
came to stay
with her.
Jackie was a
Navy wife
and her
reason for
coming to
Santa
Barbara was
to become a
teacher at
Lymon Prep.
She lost her
wallet on
her first
night in
town, but it
was found
and returned
to her by
wealthy Ted
Capwell.
Upon
getting the
teaching
job, Jackie
got to know
Ted better
because he
and his
girlfriend, Laken
Lockridge,
were two of
her students.
Ted and
Laken were
obviously
having
problems at
the time,
and Jackie
tried to get
them to
confide in
her. She
came down
hard on Ted
when his
problems
interfered
with his
homework,
but they
soon made
amends.
Friendship
with Ted
Jackie's
husband,
Larry Parks,
was overseas
and she was
disappointed
when he
couldn't
come home on
leave. Ted
was with
Jackie when
she received
a letter,
informing
her that her
husband was
ill, and
they took a
drive to a
Naval office
find out how
serious the
situation
was. Slowly
but surely,
the two
started to
become
friends.
Meanwhile,
Jackie had a
good
friendship
with Amy and
got along
well with Brick
Wallace,
the guy Amy
was falling
in love with.
Jackie also attended the
wedding of
Amy's
brother, Joe
Perkins,
and Kelly
Capwell.
On a less
positive
note, Jackie
witnessed a
horrible
fight
between Amy
and Jeff,
her baby's
father. When
Amy started
having
cramps,
Jackie got
the
frightened
girl to the
hospital and
called Brick
for her. Amy
ended up not
losing the baby,
and Brick
moved in
with her and
Jackie.
When
Jackie
called Amy
to tell her
that Larry
was finally
coming home,
she had no
idea that
Amy was
being held
hostage by a
deranged Peter
Flint.
As a result,
an
unsuspecting
Jackie went
home and
became one
of the
hostages
herself. She
was
devastated when Peter
shot her
husband,
mistaking
Larry for a
cop.
Larry only
pretended to
be dead to
fool Peter,
however, so
Jackie played
along with
this charade.
They were
both moved
to the
nursery, and
later Larry
tried to
overpower
Peter.
Fortunately,
both Jackie
and Larry
managed to
escape with
their lives.

Jackie
was
supported
by

she
needed
it.

As Larry
recovered in
the hospital,
Jackie
introduced
Ted to her
husband.
Larry was
soon ordered
to return to
the Navy,
but he and
Jackie
managed to
make love
one last
time. He promised
her to come back
for good
after this
final tour
of duty.
Some time
later, a
letter from
Larry
worried
Jackie and
she prayed
for his safe
return. When
she received
a telegram
from the
Navy, she
immediately feared that
her husband was
dead. She
was afraid
to open the
envelope
until Ted
happened to
stop by.
Fortunately,
the telegram
turned out
to be about
Larry's
discharge.
Feeling the
need to
celebrate, a
tipsy Jackie
went out
with Ted.
They started
spending
more time
together and
even went
jogging
together.
Since Ted
had been
accepted to
two colleges
(Harvard and
Stanford),
his father, C.C.
Capwell,
put pressure
on Jackie to
influence
Ted to
consider
going to
Harvard that
fall. Jackie
believed
that the
decision
should be
Ted's and
went to see
him at the
apartment he
was sharing
with his
older
brother, Mason.
Little did
Jackie and
Ted know
that a few
prostitutes
were hanging
out at the
apartment.
Everyone was
arrested
during a
police bust,
including
Jackie who
had no
identification
with her. At
the police
station, she
called Brick
to get her
passport and
the innocent
mistake was
soon
straightened
out.
Although Ted
blamed Mason
for what
happened,
Jackie
celebrated
their
release by
inviting the
Capwell
brothers to
dinner.
Ted spent
the night on
Jackie's
sofa and the
next morning
they were
shocked to
see an
article on
the bust of
the
prostitution
ring, plus
their
picture, on
the front
page of the
morning
paper.
Jackie was
reprimanded
by the Lymon
headmistress
for her
provocative
friendship
with Ted.
Not wanting
to lose her
job, Jackie
told Ted
that she
wouldn't
spend time
with him
anymore.
Bad
news
Jackie
received
another
telegram,
this time
informing
her that
Larry was
missing
after a
plane crash.
After not
getting a
confirmation
of any sort
from the
Navy, she
went to the
State Street
Bistro and
ran into Ted.
They went to
his
apartment,
where a sad
Jackie
danced with
Ted to a
song that
was special
to her and
her husband.
The next day,
she expected
bad news
about Larry
and her
worst fears
were soon
confirmed. A
Naval
officer
informed her
that Larry had
been killed!
In a
state of
shock,
Jackie
decided to
drive to
Monterey.
Ted, who had
been
informed of
the sad news,
insisted on
accompanying
her. After a
long drive
together, a
distraught Jackie
vented her
anger at
being left
alone by
Larry. She
stayed at a
motel with
Ted and
tried to
write a
letter to
her late
husband. When
Ted heard
Jackie
crying, he
took her
into his
arms. It
didn't get
out of hand,
however, as
she thanked
him for his
support and
returned to
Santa
Barbara. This
was the last
time we saw
her.
