Elizabeth
Peale was a
fictional character
who appeared on Santa
Barbara from
December 1984
to March 1985. She
was
portrayed by
actress Lauren
Chase.
Introduction
In late
1984, Lionel
Lockridge
created a
lot of
public
anticipation
when he
claimed that
his family's
ship, the
Amanda
Lockridge,
had taken
with her
several
valuable
paintings
when it sank
one hundred
years ago.
He blamed
the Capwell
family for
sinking the
ship and
made several
phone calls
with a
"friend,"
telling him
or her to
make an
appearance.
Around
this time,
an art
expert named
Sir Richard
Peale was
supposed to
give a
lecture at
the museum.
His daughter,
Elizabeth
Peale,
arrived
unexpectedly
in his place
and
explained to
C.C.
Capwell,
who was on
the musem board, that
her father
had suddenly
taken ill.
Stating that
she was
equally
qualified,
she planned
to take over
the lectures.
It was then
that Lady
Peale
crossed
paths with
Lionel
Lockridge,
C.C.'s
archenemy.
Lionel
immediately
caused a
scene,
insulting
Liz by
calling her
and her
father
overrated
art
historians,
and refused
to apologize
for his
words. Liz
took it all
in stride,
however, and
the two
traded
insults.
Angered by
Lionel's
behavior,
C.C. invited
Liz to stay
with him at
his mansion
as an
honored
guest. Little
did he know
that
appearances
had been
very
deceiving.
That same
day, in his
basement,
Lionel
admired
crated
paintings
that were
actually
forgeries.
It seemed
that he
planned to
put these
forgeries in
the Amanda
Lockridge
and
"discover"
them the
next day. As
he invited
his
collaborator
to share a
drink with
him, it was
revealed
that his
"friend"
was none
other than
Liz Peale!
Although
Lionel was
determined
to get his
final
revenge
against the
Capwells,
Liz seemed
more
interested
in success,
richness and
the
adventure of
it all.
Liz
talked
Lionel into
letting her
participate
in the
secret dive
for the
Amanda
Lockridge.
They brought
up a safe
from the
ship and
checked it
out on
Lionel's
boat. In the
safe, Lionel
found a
Chinese
puzzle box and
the
captain's
log book (among
other items).
Lionel read some of
the entries
from the log
to Liz, but
the
captain's
words didn't
prove that a
Capwell had
been
responsible
for sinking
the ship. In
order to
make the
Capwells
look guilty,
Liz was
helpful to
Lionel by
forging
entries into
the log. The
next day,
Lionel made
a public
dive for the
Amanda
Lockridge
and "discovered"
the safe.

Everything
went
according to
plan at
first. The
citizens of
Santa
Barbara
believed
that the
fake
paintings
had been on
the Amanda
Lockridge
all those
years, and
Lionel held
a ceremony
at the
museum to
celebrate
his success.
To
everyone's
surprise, Liz
confirmed that one of
the forgeries
was an
authentic
Rembrandt.
Lionel
proceeded to
open the
safe and
read entries
from the
captain's
log, but was
then
arrested for
Channing
Capwell Jr.'s
murder! Bail
was set at
five million
dollars. To
raise that
kind of
money, Liz
agreed to
help the
Lockridges
by selling
some of the
paintings.
Meanwhile,
as Liz spent
her time at
the Capwell
mansion,
C.C. spilled
her
briefcase
and saw her
forging
equipment.
Liz managed
to cover
successfully,
but it was a
close call.
She once got
sidetracked
by the
Capwells
when she
rushed to
get the
equipment
for her art
scam with
Lionel, but
Lionel,
disguising
his voice,
called and
gave her an
excuse to
leave.
Another
guest in the
Capwell
house at the
time was Gina
Demott,
who was
romantically
interested
in C.C. and
felt
threatened
by Liz's
presence.
The two vied
for C.C.'s
attention,
and Gina was
annoyed when
Liz joined
her and C.C.
when they
were going
to see
Christmas
decorations.
Wordly and
attractive,
Liz made
Gina feel
like she was
out of her
league. Like
many of the
citizens of
Santa
Barbara, Liz
attended Kelly
Capwell's
wedding to Joe
Perkins.
Instead
of seducing
C.C., Lady
Peale took a
shine to Cruz
Castillo
and the
Lockridge
chauffeur, Brick
Wallace.
After Cruz
broke into
the museum
to check out
the
captain's
log book,
Liz got a
description
of him from
the guard.
She tried to
make a deal
with Cruz,
asking him
to dive for
the Amanda
Lockridge
with her,
but nothing
came of it.
Next, Liz
attempted to
seduce Brick.
She tried to
get him to
pose for her
and even
offered him
money, but
he turned
her down.
This final
rejection
caused a
lonely Liz
to break
down and
tell Brick
about her
desperate
attempts to
get her
father's
attention.
Tired of
feeling like
a fake, she
visited
Lionel in
jail and
told him
there would
be no more
forgeries.
Following
this visit,
Liz saw Peter
Flint
at the
police
station and
was unnerved
by the
strange look
in his eyes,
unaware that
he was in
fact the
Carnation
Killer.
Planning
to leave
town, Liz
was instead
caught in
the middle
of a chase
at the
museum
between Warren
Lockridge
(Lionel's
son), Mason
Capwell
and the
police.
Surprisingly,
Liz didn't
give Warren
away to
Mason and
helped the
fugitive
escape to
his old barn.
Since Warren
was being
suspected of
Channing's
murder, Liz
offered her
help in
getting him
off the hook.
Warren asked
her to
deliver a
note to the
Contessa
Armonti
(a.k.a. Sophia
Capwell)
and lure her
to a motel.
That plan
backfired,
and Liz
asked Brick
to get
Warren some
things
because by
then she was
being
followed by
the police.
She gave
Brick a
friendly
kiss, which
was seen and
misinterpreted
by his
girlfriend Amy
Perkins.
Liz
enjoyed her
time with
Warren in
the barn,
and it gave
her more
confidence
in being an
authentic
painter.
After
Warren's
name was
cleared, we
saw Liz
again after
she
underwent an
operation
for
appendicitis.
She was
grateful to
Warren for
rushing her
to the
hospital and
tried to
make
something
work between
them, but he
was more
fascinated
by
policewoman Maggie
Gillis.
As a result,
Liz was last
seen when
she cleared
up Amy's
misunderstanding
about her
and Brick.
