September 1989.
He was
portrayed by
actor Jon
Cypher.
Background
Dr.
Arthur
Donnelly was
the father
of Michael
of and Heather.
He got
divorced
from their
mother when
Heather was
ten years
old. Arthur
and Michael
never got
along, so
Michael went
with his
mother and
Heather
stayed with
Arthur. The
family
drifted
apart, but
Heather reconnected
with Michael
in Santa
Barbara in
1988.
Introduction
When
Arthur
arrived in
town, he
instantly
drew
attention to
himself at a
charity
auction by
outbidding
everyone for
the watch he
had once
given
Michael.
That same
day, Arthur
became the chief of
staff at the
hospital
where
Heather was
a resident.
His
relationship
with his two
children was
strained, and
Heather even
considered
transferring
to another
hospital.
Disapproving
dad
Arthur
didn't like Dr.
Scott Clark,
another
resident at
the hospital,
especially
when he
learned that
Scott and
Heather were
seeing each
other.
Arthur did
everything
to break
them up and
got Heather's
former
college chum, Zack
Kelton,
a job at
the hospital.
He hoped
that Heather
would dump
Scott for
Zack, but
that never
happened.
Arthur then
assigned
Scott to run
a clinic in
the poor
section of
town.
Things
took a turn
for the
worse when
Arthur
performed an
emergency
surgery on
Scott's
father, Ben.
Sadly, Ben
died on the
operation
table.
Although
Arthur was
genuinely
devastated
by this turn
of events,
Scott
accused him
of murder
and punched
him.
Meanwhile,
Arthur dated
Sophia
Capwell
and later Victoria
Lane.
After
reconciling
with his
children,
he left for
a medical
conference
in Frankfurt.
Arthur's
return
Arthur
didn't
return to
Santa
Barbara
until the
following
year. He
came back at
Heather's
prompting because
Michael was
in jail for
the accused
murder of
Leo Mitchell.
Fortunately,
Michael's
name was
soon cleared.
Arthur
started
dating
Sophia again.
By
then, Scott
had dumped Heather for Celeste
DiNapoli,
even though
Heather was
now
pregnant.
Because of
this
pregnancy, Arthur tried
to get Scott
and Heather
back
together.
He was last
seen when
Heather's
baby was
born.
