Time: December 1989
Setting: Cruz and Eden's house
Characters: Cruz and Eden
Premise: Cruz comes home from a run and sees Eden for the first time since she left with Robert Barr. They look at each other. Without saying anything, Cruz gets a drink of water.

Eden: I know what you're thinking.

Cruz: I'm not thinking anything.

Eden: Robert and I...

Cruz: Save it. Whatever it is, save it.

Eden: I want you to know.

Cruz: Darlin', nothing you can say is going to make any difference. I have sat back and waited. I have listened to you go on about how little your feelings for him really mean, and it's obvious you've been lying. Now whether to protect yourself or to pacify me, I don't know. But you never stopped loving him. And you're not going to stop now. So let's leave it be.

Eden: I want to tell you...

Cruz: I don't want to hear it! It's not going to make any difference so I don't want to hear it. I know you can look into my eyes now and tell me anything. You'll promise me the moon. Tomorrow you'll be staring off into space again, and you'll forget about it. I'm tired. You want him, you got him. I'm going to make this a clear as I possibly can. I'm going to make it easy. (Takes off his wedding ring, then lays it down on the bar counter.) You see this? There it is. It's over. (Heads for the door.)

Eden: Don't go. Don't go! (Cruz stops and turns around to face Eden) Please. Just talk to me.

Cruz: What do you want me to say? You want me to tell you again that I love you. I'm tired, I don't want to say it anymore. I don't want to say it. I have to leave.

Eden: Well, if you need time to think, I think we both need time...

Cruz: I've thought this to death. It's over.

Eden: I'm sorry if I've hurt you. I love you more than anything in the world. If I could do it over again, if there were some other way...

Cruz: You'd do what? In other words, if you could have stayed with me, you would have stayed instead of going to him like you did?

Eden: He needed me.

Cruz: And I didn't, right? Right, I know. You didn't know what you were doing so this is completely unexpected I'm sure.

Eden: Look, he needed me and nobody else was there. It doesn't mean I want to give up my family or my children or you.

Cruz: This home does not excist the way it once did.

Eden: We can make it work.

Cruz: And what about this man you love, Eden?

Eden: I love you.

Cruz: Uh-huh, you love me. So you''ll be happy coming back here, right? Into this marriage, and you'll just let go of Robert forever. Can you look me in the eye and tell me that? That he's not going to be drifting in and out of your mind like some song that only you can hear? No you can't, because you love him. It's a difficult wrinkle, don't you think? Seeing as how what we had together was based on a total commitment to each other.

Eden: I am committed to you. I have been committed to you. That's why I didn't... (Stops herself from saying more.)

Cruz: That's why you didn't what? That's why you didn't sleep with him? Is that what you were about to say? That's why you haven't slept with him yet? Well, that's reassuring. Knowing how much you want to but that you've somehow controlled yourself for the sake of your home, your family. What do you think I am? I have your body so therefore I should be content to share your heart? Do you really expect me to settle for that? I guess you don't remember at all who I am.

Eden: (Tries to hand the ring back) Would you please keep it?

Cruz: Keep the ring? The ring has no meaning. You keep the ring. (Walks out the door, leaving Eden standing there.)
