TRANSCRIPTS > Julia argues with Mason about his drinking

Time: May 1988
Setting: Capwell gazebo
Characters: Mason and Julia
Premise: Cruz has disappeared. Mason is drinking from his flask when Julia arrives at the gazebo.

Julia: Mason, Ted is with Eden and... (Spots Mason with the flask.)

Mason: Am I now or have I ever been my brother's keeper?

Julia: Please don't drink anymore. I'm begging you Mason, please not now.

Mason: I need to talk to you.

Julia: All right. What do you want to talk about?

Mason: I may have murdered a man two years ago because I was drunk. And as history tends to repeat itself, I may have endangered Cruz's life tonight because I was too drunk to stick to his plan.

Julia: What do you want me to say? I don't know what to say to you. You see I've been making this easy for you all along. I've been picking up after you. I wake you up when you're drunk in the car. I bring you inside, I give you aspirin, I put you to bed, I hold your hand when you're sick, I clean up your vomit from the night before. I'm not going to help you anymore, Mason. I'm not going to do it. So if you're standing there expecting me to listen to a confession and then pat you on the head like a good little boy and tell you that everything's going to be okay, I'm not going to do that. I won't do it. I can't! There's no time. You are in trouble! Cruz is missing, Eden is fit to be tied and I just can't look after everybody and be a nurse maid to you and your flask! Now give it to me! (Grabs for the flask, but he doesn't give it to her) Give it to me, I want it. Give it to me, damn you! (Gives up) Do you see how important that is to you? It's more important than Cruz. But the worst part is it's more important than your own life! I want to help you but I don't know how! (Runs off.)
