Kelly
is angry with Joe for walking out on her father. Joe
defends himself by stating that C.C.'s offer to give
them the wedding feels like charity and that C.C. wants
to control him. Kelly turns to Cruz for a talk and he
makes her realize that although Joe is proud, he's also
a wonderful guy.
Cruz
and Eden have fun when he chops the desk, but Amanda
Lockridge's diary is nowhere to be found. They're
looking at pictures of the captain's logbook when Kelly
stops by to talk to Cruz about Joe, and Eden is amused
when Cruz mentions not having a woman who appreciates
him like that. Later, when Gina comes home with groceries to
surprise C.C. with dinner, Eden says he went out with Liz
Peale. Refusing to be discouraged, Gina assures Eden
that she always manages to make things work out somehow.
Warren
is being questioned by Mason about the coins and learns
about Summer's return to town. When Mason gets a call
about Lionel departing hastily from a moving train in a
hail of gunfire, Warren is worried and warns Mason that
his father is innocent. Later, Mason celebrates the news
about Lionel with Veronica. He senses her discomfort,
but she blames it on the murder at La Mesa.
Peter
gets told by his doctor that he has an aneurism.
Realizing that he only has a short time to live, a
distraught Peter blames Kelly for everything and tells
himself that he needs her. He pays a visit to Mason at
the Presidential Suite and asks him for money to leave
Santa Barbara. Mason turns him down. Furious, Peter
watches Mason from behind the two-way
mirror and overhears him warning Veronica that Peter is
a weak and evil man. His obsession gets the better of him
when Mason calls Kelly to set up a
meeting. When Kelly arrives, a worried Mason tells her
to stop working at La Mesa until the killer is found.
She refuses.
At
the State Street Bar, Summer tells Gina how sorry she
feels for the girl in the pictures. Gina encourages
Summer to talk to Warren, but the conversation turns to Gina's
interest in C.C. and Summer hoping that Gina gets what
she wants. When Warren finds Summer, he tells her he's sorry about what happened to her (i.e. the rape).
She tells him that she's in therapy, which is the most
important thing to her right now, but he assures her
that she doesn't have to protect him from Mason and that
he's going to wait for her since she thinks it's too
soon for them to be together.
Later, he brings her to the Presidential Suite
for her meeting with Mason. When Mason gets a call that
Lionel was picked up, both he and Warren rush off to the
police station. But they just find Charlie Stubs, the bum who
stole Lionel's identification and jacket. Warren attacks
the bum thinking he killed Lionel, but the bum reveals
that he found Lionel by the railroad tracks last night.
Meanwhile,
Kelly and Summer head for the State Street Bar as Peter
watches from behind the two-way mirror. He follows them, hiding
his face behind a newspaper, and watches the two women from
a nearby table. Summer gets into an argument with Kelly
by asking her not to incriminate Warren. After Kelly
takes off, Peter is too late to stop her and starts to
hallucinate that Summer is Kelly! He approaches her on
the pretext that Warren has been in an accident and
offers to drive her to the hospital. Summer agrees and
they have just left when Warren shows up at the bar
looking for her. Once inside the car, Peter shows Summer
a white carnation...
